“I think the data rather underestimates the disadvantage to poorer, already
resident British citizens.”

He added: “My book is partly directed at liberal, Guardian-reading Britain,
and my main argument is that large-scale immigration has been too far, too
high and too quick in the last 15 years or so.

“It has had a major impact on the people that Guardian readers are supposed to
care about — poorer people.”
